When I tried to talk to him about it he was mad at me because people were not running with any protection on there PC's. Gold Level Member 3-2010Registered: Posts: 229Posted Ok well this arrived a few days ago. It came with two disks, the main install disk and a disk for the update. The install was a snap the only unfortunate thing is the upgrade disk was completely blank. A quick email to the sender and he is sending me out a new one.
He apologized for the mistake and said he would send the update out right away.While I am waiting for the update I tried the cable and original software on my 2012 90hp E-TEC and it works as advertised. No issues.Hope this helps.

There is no such thing as a legitimate copy you can buy. Evinrude prohibited the resale of diagnostic software. If says so in the documentation included when you purchase the CD.

Also the CD that they send is very out of date. When a dealer buys the CD they have to update it by logging into the dealer portal, downloading a file to update it once, then after that they have to put their dealer creds into the diagnostic software to update it againThis is a picture for the 6.1 software but the 5.1 software says the same thing. Mrc.You need the software if you do your own servicing.The software is readily available from multiple legitimate BRP authorized sources and despite the above notation is sometimes suggested by BRP to be sold to/run by E-TEC owners. Many of us owners use it successfully.It runs well on a laptop with Windows including the latest versions of Windows 10 You just need a USB port and purchase a serial interface and cable which can be made off of Amazon or from many dealers.All but one or two rarely needed software functions work fine so there is no need to access dealer.net.No, it does not typically ever need to be logged into dealer.net and be updated unless you later buy a new engine requiring features added since your provided version was created.It comes with a very user friendly help file suitable for use by most anyone. There is no limit on being installed on multiple computers.If you prefer buying from a BRP authorized source (original BRP produced CD with sealed BRP part numbered labeled packaging) that would be happy to sell it to you, I know of several. I agree there are plenty of BRP dealers selling the software despite the document included with the CD from brp telling them not to. My point was that it is licensed for use by dealers and even though anyone can buy it and anyone working on an etec needs it, even though if its an official copy it is not going to be licensed for his use.I'm not saying anyone shouldn't but it just relating some potential issues that might come up.
If he is going to buy it let him know before hand that it will not be a copy supported by brp and will not have the latest maps or features that are available to the dealers. Nope it is proprietary software. Should you secure a copy you don't need a dealer number to make it work it is only used for uploading files to BRP, You cannot use either BossWeb or Dealerport as this is strictly a dealer connection to BRP. Factory employees also register their versions. As soon as you connect to either a FICHT or and ETEC you will get a pop up message telling you your version is out of date or hasn't been updated in XXX days. You will not get the latest MAP for your motor only what was installed on the release. You can't update the MAP without connecting to Dealer Port BossWeb.
