Here's what it looks like at 1920x1080 Without Anti-Aliasing(my 275GTX couldn't hold it with Vsync on):(Lossless PNGs)(battle)(character)(face/eye textures)(a small town)(characters)(Niko)(Imperial Capital, view from the bridge)(character, note the clothing and face textures)(Cecille, obviously)Looks pretty damn good for a game meant to run at 640x480.(Disable External Frame buffer, it looks better and it's a huge performance hit)So quick summary here:It's pretty good.The English Voice Acting is abysmal, use the a-arfundub.iso undub. Oh, gosh, I love Arc Rise Fantasia. I played it dubbed and it didn't render it unplayable for me and I still love it just as much as I would undubbed. Story wise, I think it's incredible. The politics and religion play into L'Arc's journey really well and help shape the world as he travels through it (which I personally love to death, others may not be into it). There is a lot more to the story and I feel the characters develop incredibly well.And to top it all off, the soundtrack is absolutely amazing.
100% recommend with a 9/10. Reminded me a lot of the experience I had first playing Skies of Arcadia - one of, if not, my favorite JRPG. Crafting - not exactly. There is plenty of customization. I made another comment in this post about some of that.There are lots of optional bosses, scattered everywhere throughout the game. There are also more plot-oriented bosses after you've finished 'won', as well as one huge dungeon with five more bosses.
A few other scenes, weapons, and other stuff are available.You're gonna miss a lot of the story on the first playthrough, so it might be interesting to go through again. You can also experiment with other weapons, characters, and magic. There's no new game+ kind of thing and no alternate endings. I enjoyed re-fighting the bosses, since they're so much more fun and hard than in any other game I own. It's a bit heavy on the cheesy or cliche moments, but I found it interesting and fun.
Loved the battle system.OP forgot to mention Arm Forces, which give you a ton of options for customization. No weapon has any stats associated with it. Instead there is a 4x4 grid with various shaped pieces in place that all have certain effects.
Some cannot be moved, others can be moved to any weapon for any character. When the grid is full, that weapon's secret ability becomes active. Weapons need to be used for a while to be able to move pieces and fill the grid. Most weapons give one piece that you can move, so later in the game you have lots of options.Magic is also rather customizable - you can choose how many types of magic you want, how powerful you want a certain type, and how many uses you want from each level.
You have to plan this though, because there is a limit to how much you can upgrade your gem (you can reset it though) and it costs a ton of 'rico' (in-game money) to mess with the magic system.And like he said, most bosses in this game are really f.cking hard, especially in your first playthrough when you don't know how things work. The second boss kicked my ass three times in a row, and I ended up grinding a few more levels. I played the game dubbed, and while it was only slightly painful in the beginning, I eventually got used to it. I thought it was a pretty fun game.The customization for your characters through their weapons was pretty unique and fun to mess around with. I didn't find the bosses too difficult, but at least a good challenge.
I will say that you may have to use the Defend command intelligently, unlike most other RPG games. The bosses generally tell you when their most devastating attack is coming (your characters generally give you a hint, like L'arc says 'I've got a bad feeling about this.'
) and you just have to queue up some defend commands followed by some healing commands in the same turn. It's all about getting into the same rhythm with the boss.I will say, even though it gives you the order of actions, that order is sometimes wonky as well, since everything happens at the same time. The order it tells you is simply when the action begins, not necessarily when the action occurs, which can be jarring when you go to defend for an attack and 2/3 characters defend while the last one starts the defend animation, but doesn't defend before the enemy uses their attack.But overall, the game is pretty fun, dubbed or undubbed.
It just depends on how much you can take. There's a certain hilarious aspect to playing the dubbed version as well, if you have a good sense of humor at least.
This is currently a placeholder topic. I’ve had it in my mind to make an undub for Arc Rise Fantasia since hearing about it earlier. Given the amount of threads I’ve seen pop up lately, I thought I’d put this up.I am in the process of making an undub for Arc Rise Fantasia. It should not be difficult - I have already identified all the audio files.The Undub will work with Riivolution.
I am a co-creator of Riivolution.In the mean time, until I get this up or someone else posts something similar, here are some stats.-JP-ENG-# of Event Voices-12, 771-7, 328-Filesize of Voice Clips-676.3-342.9 MB-In addition, nearly every ENG voice clip is smaller in filesize than the original JP equivalent. Lower quality encode, perhaps? Also - there are 11 NEW english voice clips, with no JP equivalent. They kind dropped the ball on that, huh? I've been working on making my own undub as well.
I'm still near the beginning of the game, but so far it seems to be mostly in Japanese. I say 'mostly', because sometimes I'll hear L'arc say 'take that!' During battle, though most of the battle dialogue, all of the movies and misc. Dialogue is in Japanese. These are the files/directories I've replaced with those from the Japanese version:- /btl/btlvoice.afs- /event/voice/- /movies/- /minigame/voice/Does anyone know what could be causing the occasional English voice to pop up? I thought I got everything, but I guess not.edit: I read elsewhere that the US version of the game actually has 9 or so audio files that the Japanese version doesn't have, so it may not be possible to rectify this.
